Have you noticed that our YouTube playlists may now have video ads between the songs? In addition to interrupting the enjoyment of the music it also can affect the automated playing of the next song in a playlist. The popup ads used in the playlists didn’t cause any such problems.
I have turned off every option I can find to stop this type advertising but nothing has worked. And based on what I’ve found in Google’s instructions regarding opting out of such ads I’m not sure the consumer has any real control over what they see other than not to watch/listen to YouTube videos. For now I am not watching/listening to any of the playlists. If Google maintains this approach to their video ads I may just delete the playlists.
Update 2/27/2014:
Nothing has gotten any better. In fact, using the playlists as background music while you use your computer for other purposes is no longer even practical. One or two songs may play, but then the playlists stops after every song. You have to manually advance the selection. Sometimes that doesn’t even work.
Update 3/4/2014:
It looks like the way the YouTube playlists now work is the way it may work from now on. I will leave the playlists on the web site, but if you chose to listen to a playlist know that its pretty much a manual process rather than an automated process like it used to be. If that ever changes I’ll update this post.
Update 3/6/2014:
Lets don’t call if fixed yet (that would jinx it for sure) but I just listened to a long playlist of songs and the YouTube play list worked perfectly. It moved from one song to next just like it use to do and without any interruptions. It was great! I was revisiting some of Trey Ratcliff’s photos and boy did they and the music go great together. If you give it a try let me know how it works for you.
