Jerry Cook brought this death to my attention. He noted that Mr. Ziegler was a coach at Lakeshore Junior High during the years many of our classmates were there.
William Paxson Zeigler, Jr.
SHREVEPORT, LA- William "Bill" Paxson Zeigler, Jr., 89, was born on October 17, 1923 and passed away on July 18, 2013 at the Highland Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 12 noon Monday, July 22, 2013 at Rose-Neath's Southside Chapel. Conducting the service will be Rev. Art Vance and Pastor Beth Sentell. Interment will follow in Centuries Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Sunday, July 21, 2013 at the funeral home.
Bill was the eldest child of William Paxson Zeigler and Lillian Montrell Zeigler. He resided in Shreveport most of his life and after serving three years in the Air Force he went on to play professional baseball in Texas. There he met and married Anna Pauline Anderson, the love of his life for 65 wonderful years.
They moved back to Shreveport where he graduated from Centenary College and then went on to LSU-Baton Rouge to get his Masters Degree + 30 hours in education.
Bill taught and coached in the Caddo Parish School system for 30 years, retiring and then continuing to teach for 12 more years at First Baptist Church School in Shreveport. He was a charter member of John Calvin Presbyterian Church and lived a life of Christian values reflecting his love for God and all people.
Bill was an avid golfer and played many rounds with his golfing buddies.
He is survived by his loving wife, Pauline, 3 sisters, Lucille Merrill, Marjory Akins, Priscilla Lynn and husband, Benoit, a number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Preceding Bill in death were his parents and his brother, James Zeigler.
Pallbearers will be Clifton Engi, Russell Engi, Walton Lynn, Tom Merrill, Caleb Miears and Mark Ross.
