 Donald Ray Phelps, 71, of Houston passed away Tuesday, April 1, 2014. Mr. Phelps was born December 7, 1942 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Samuel and Lucille Phelps. He is survived by his sons, Samuel Phelps & wife Bobbi and James Phelps; grandchildren Robert and Shelby, and many, many friends.

Don graduated from Fair Park High School, Shreveport, LA. He went on to receive his Bachelors from LSU in Baton Rouge, LA, where he opened his own Der Weinersnitchel Restaurant. Don held various accounting jobs in such prestigious firms as Fluor Daniels in Houston, TX. He found his true calling as a Substance Abuse Counselor, ultimately retiring from the State of Texas. Don had a special gift of encouraging and helping others, sharing his love and telling good stories and jokes. He was a loving father, friend & mentor. He will be missed by many.

A memorial service celebrating Don’s life will be held Saturday, April 5, 2014 at 1:00 PM at Dettling Funeral Home, 14094 Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77079. A reception will follow the service in the Grand Room at Dettling Funeral Home.
