Garland wanted to share with the class her experience with Orr BMW's Ultimate Drive for Cancer that she participated in this past week.
The Drive for Cancer was a great success. Orr BMW had about 25 specially marked cars (Pink Ribbon, Ultimate Drive for Susan G. Komen) and an open air tent very nicely decorated. There were pretty pink tablecloths, plenty of pink flowers that were donated by Broadmoor Florist, and lots of people showed up for the event. For every mile driven Orr BMW gave a dollar to The Susan G. Komen Foundation. Fat Burger donated all the delicious hamburgers with all the trimmings. This drive goes all over the country so be sure and watch for it in your part of town.
Garland said she was presented with a pink and gray bag given to her by Orr BMW. Also, the Foundation and Orr BMW gave her a plaque for "Hero Of The Year." Of course Garland said she was not the real hero. She said the hero's were her family and friends who stood by her in the fight. Also she gives praise to her church who prayed so fervently for her, the young woman in the mammogram lab who wouldn't quit till she got an x-ray of something she only suspected, the doctors and nurses who administered the correct treatment and got her through, the people in the research labs who look for causes and cures, the people who give to research and the people at Orr BMW and elsewhere who work so hard to put on events like this to bring awareness to the public on this fight. These are the hero's she says, and she is just the result of their heroism--She is the Survivor!
Garland, we all thank you for the kind words and may God continue to bless you and others that have had or that are still experiencing this dreadful disease.
