FPHS 1961 Reunion Update - FINAL

January 22, 2011

Hello Classmates,

This will be our last mail-out. Based on the responses so far, it looks like we will have a large turnout on the weekend of April 1-2, 2011, for our 50th reunion celebration. A list of classmates who have told us that they are coming is listed below.

Registration is $120 per couple and $65 for singles until March 1st. After March 1st the cost will be $140 per couple and $75 for singles. Register now and SAVE! It really helps our planning if you register early. Make your check payable to FPHS Reunion 1961, and mail to FPHS Reunion 1961, P. O. Box 761, Shreveport, LA 71162. A registration form is at the very bottom of this letter. For those of you have already sent in your check, please email the form to Jerry Cook.

If you need room reservations, the Holiday Inn Financial Plaza (Holidome) has a limited block of rooms for us at $89 plus tax per night. Call 318-688-1877, and mention FPHS 1961.

The feedback was clear that people wanted plenty of time to visit with classmates. Dinner (heavy hors d‟oeuvres) will start at 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 2, at the Holiday Inn Financial Plaza. We will have a short program with Charlie Ogletree as master of ceremonies. The class photograph will be taken by a professional photographer at about 8:30 p.m., after dinner. The price for an 8”x10” print is $20, payable when the photo is taken. There will be “50s-60s” music and dancing, memorial boards (Betty Molcany), and a memory/writing wall (Mary Lynn Tuminello) for your thoughts from your days in high school.

We will have a hospitality suite Friday afternoon and night (cold hors d’oeuvres and beverages) and on Saturday. It is Room 116, and it opens onto the atrium.

Open House (Hollis Thompson and Earle Valentine) is set at Fair Park from 9-11 a.m. on Saturday. We will have a short ceremony remembering our deceased classmates in the auditorium at 9 a.m. with ministers Willis Dear, Gordon Ferguson, John Pierce, and Larry Fields officiating.

There will be a "Coke Party" for the women at Dinah Netherton‟s home at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Her address is 3390 Jolly Napier Road. From downtown take Pines Road exit off of I-20 and right (North) on Pines to Jefferson Paige Road (about 3 miles) and go left for about 3 miles on Jefferson Paige to Jolly Napier. Go right on Jolly Napier and take second driveway on left. Her cell is 318-518-5478.

If you have memorabilia that you are willing to share with us at the reunion, the contact person is Judy Brooks. She is working on decorations with Denise Schneider and Judy Cromer. Judy Brooks Bartz can be reached at work at 318-840-1662 or home at 318-686-0371 or by e-mail at judy.bartz@rndc-usa.com

A list of missing classmates is listed below. If you have any leads or information, send the information to FPHS61jerry@gmail.com Please help us locate these classmates.

A men's golf outing is at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Contact Dewey Powers if you are interested in playing a round. You can phone him at 817-249-1418 or 214-384-8315.

Joanie Stockard advises that the Good Sam Park on West 70th Street is convenient and is recommended by her if you are bringing an RV.

Adult beverages will be available Saturday night on a "cash bar" basis at the Holiday Inn‟s Huddle Room which is located in the atrium.

If you have contact information for a teacher that you would like to invite, please provide that to us and we will make the contact. Teachers get to come "free". So far, we know about Mrs. Jo Allen, Martha and Clem Henderson, Joe May, Sarah and A.L. Williams, and Anita Harkness.

Robin, at the James Burton Foundation, jamesburtonfest@aol.com or 318-424-5000, can set up a special tour of the Municipal Auditorium on Friday, if there is enough interest. Their regular tour schedule is on Saturday from 11a.m. until 4 p.m. The fee is $5.00 per person. They are pretty flexible on the tour length, with about 30 minutes being a short version. There are displays of memorabilia from the Louisiana Hayride days, and the building is on the National Register of Historic Places and is designated as a National Historic Landmark. Classmate, Louise Abbott and her husband, guitarist James Burton, are active Friends of the Municipal Auditorium. The Web site is www.municipalauditorium.homestead.com

Keep in mind the State Exhibit Museum, Norton Art Gallery and grounds (azaleas) and the McNeill Street Pumping Station for other sites to see.

You can check our Web site (or have a family member or friend do so if you are a little challenged) for more reunion details www.fairpark1961.net. If you have not used the Address Update feature please try to do that so that we will have your correct contact information. Please include your e-mail address if you have one. It will not be shared with anyone but our classmates and you won't be getting a bunch of e-mails from us. Bill Scott has done a fantastic job creating and maintaining the class Web site.

Communication central is Jerry or Carrol Ann Hanson Cook 318-925-0780 or fphs61jerry@gmail.com or the P.O. Box 761, Shreveport, LA 71162.

Volunteers in waiting are Sam Lucero, Betty Carter, Faye Hammons, Phillip Carney, Bettye Bogue, Kay Burford, Mark Carter, Barbara Kennedy, Patricia Osborne, Sue Scott, Chet Terrel, Carol Ann Hawkins, Charles Maranto, Johnnie Ross, Sonny Hedges, Kay Kitchens, and Shirley Baldwin. We have not forgotten that you have volunteered to help!

Those of you who come will have a great time, and we ask for the support "from afar" from those of you, who for reasons of health or family situations, will not be able to come. Let us know that and send us a note and photo. We will be thinking of you.

Your Reunion Committee
