Walking Man Nearing Shreveport

http://walkingman2011.blogspot.com/

The above link is to a blog by a fellow in his late 60’s who is walking from California to the east coast. He was near Waskom, TX on 11/22 so he is probably in or near Shreveport now.

The Shreveport Times may do a story on him, but you can also follow him on his blog. I’ve checked his blog a couple of times since he came through Fort Worth and its an interesting thing to do.

Helen Lindsay Rigg sent a note tonight that she had spoken by phone to classmate Garland Whitis. Garland is in Highland Hospital to receive hyperbaric treatment. Helen said Garland sounded good but that he would appreciate your prayers.

Finding Our Class Web Site

If you ever need to find our class web site, but don't have the web site address handy, there is a very easy way to resolve the problem. Use any computer to which you have access to open your favorite search engine. Search for "fairpark1961" in that search engine. Nearly every page of our web site should be listed near the top of the search results. If that isn't the case, repeat the search using Google, Yahoo, or Bing. I tried those three search engines and they each listed our web site in the first results.

Reunion Update - November 1, 2010

Jerry Cook has provided his 4th update of Reunion planning activities. If you have questions please contact him directly at FPHS61Jerry@gmail.com.

__________________________________

Time is sure flying, six months from now we will be at our 50th Reunion. Over 150 classmates have already indicated they will attend, so we have added an extra meeting room for dancing and/or overflow eating. This compares favorably with a total of 160 classmates who attended the 20th reunion, which was a "big one". Based on the responses the Reunion Committee received, you want a lot of time for visiting with former classmates. Our plans are focused on that goal – giving you the time to visit. Of course there will be 50's & 60's music, a memorial corner, memorabilia, and a Writing/Memory Wall to express your feelings about Fair Park.

Date of Reunion: Friday April 1 and 2, 2011

Place: Holiday Inn Financial Plaza (Holidome) Shreveport, LA. The Hospitality Suite will be available Friday afternoon and Night and Saturday(cold hors d'oeuvres and beverages will be available Friday night). We have reserved a block of rooms at Holiday Inn West-Financial Plaza (Holidome)--$89 plus tax per night (you must mention FPHS61 for this discounted rate). Includes free high-speed, wireless Internet access, and free airport shuttle.

Open House at Fair Park is set for 9 am-11 am on Sat. April 2nd. (Hollis Thompson - contact) A short Memorial Ceremony will be held in the school auditorium at 9 am. Willis Dear, Gordon Ferguson, John Pierce, and Larry Fields will be officiating.

Class photographs will be taken immediately after the Memorial Ceremony. If the group is large we may take one picture of all, and then take one of the Midway/Linwood group, and one of the remaining classmates (Lakeshore, Fair Park 9th grade, and others). There should be about an hour left for you to tour the school.

Coke Party for the ladies at Dinah Netherton's at 1:30 PM on Sat April 2nd.

Men's Golf outing- 1:30PM on Sat April 2nd - Contact Dewey Powers dewey@powersntc.com if you are interested in playing a round.

Buffet Dinner/Dance at Holiday Inn Financial Plaza—Sat. Evening April 2nd (serving starts at 7pm).

Robin, at the James Burton Foundation, jamesburtonfest@aol.com or, 318-424-5000, can set up a tour of the Municipal Auditorium on Friday April 1, 2011, if there is enough interest. Their regular tour schedule is on Saturday from 11 am until 4 pm. The fee is $5.00 per person. They are pretty flexible on the tour length, with about 30 minutes being a "short version". There are displays of memorabilia from the Louisiana Hayride days, and the building is on the National Register of Historic Places and is designated as a National Historic Landmark. Classmate Louise Abbott and her husband, guitarist James Burton, are active Friends of the Municipal Auditorium. The Web site is www.municipalauditorium.homestead.com.

Check our web site for all class related information at http://www.fairpark1961.net. The new feature on the class web site that is most important is the online address update process. If you have not used the "Address Update" link yet, do ASAP, to make certain we have your full and correct information. Please include your e-mail address, your email address is not shared with anyone but the rest of the class via the Class Email Directory which is password protected on the web site. The more we can do to get classmates using the web site and reading the Blog, the greater role it can play in keeping classmates informed. Bill Scott has done a fantastic job creating and maintaining the web site. Visit the site to keep up to date on the latest information.

We will update you as we make more progress with the reunion planning. This is going to be the biggest and best one yet. Those of you who come will have a great time and we ask for the support "from afar" from those of you, who for reasons of health or family situations, will not be able to come. We will be thinking of you and hope that those of you who can, will contact Jerry Cook FPHS61Jerry@gmail.com so that we will know that "you are planning to be there". Looking forward to seeing you April 1st, 2011.
