Alumni Information Updates #3
Recently, a classmate let me know she had found an email from me at her old email address. To ensure that doesn't happen again she used the online address update process found on the Email Directory page of the class web site to ensure her alumni address information was current.
Her actions were precisely the right thing to do. By asking each classmate who is online to keep their address info current, and making that a very easy thing to do, most of the choke points that have contributed to alumni address information being out-of-date have been significantly reduced.
The online approach allows each classmate with access to an Internet connection to update their alumni information with a minimal effort, usually only about two minutes or less from start to finish. I encourage everyone who hasn't done so already to go to the Email Directory page of the class web site and use the Update Address form. And use it each time any part of your address information changes.

Alumni Information Updates #2
I received alumni information update #60 last night. The electronic process for providing this information has worked great. As far as I can tell it has been perfect with no lost submissions or muddled data.
However, just to be sure, if you have submitted your alumni info electronically please go to the Email Directory on the class web site and confirm that your info shown there is (1) shown as having been updated, and (2) is correct. If its not correct, please let me know. Please note that your home address and telephone number are kept offline and are not shown in the online list.
If you have not yet provided your alumni info update please take the time to do that soon using the online form. The online form is on the Email Directory page of the class web site. Its especially important that we have valid data so that contact with you concerning any reunion matters can be achieved quickly and accurately. If every classmate with an Internet connection updates their data using the online form you can be confident you have the very latest info regarding the reunion.

Student Handbook
Mickey's done it again. <grin> This time he added his Fair Park Student Handbook to his Google Picasa files. The handbook is accessible from the Photos page of the web site using the Album 16 link. Check it out. Its got lots of good stuff that will fire up the old memory circuits.
Fair Park 1961 Yearbook Online
This is good news for any who no longer have their 1961 Sequoyah, or that can't easily get to it in the storage closet. Classmate Mickey Phillips has done a high definition scan of every page of his 1961 Sequoyah and has uploaded the entire yearbook to his Google Picasa photo account so that you can view the 1961 Sequoyah online. To access the yearbook click on the Album 01 link on the Photos page of the class web site.
There are lots of options for viewing the online yearbook.
- You can view each page individually by clicking on the icon for that page. Arrow links help you go to the next page. Or you can use the arrow keys on your keyboard. They seem to be a very fast way to go forward or back to pages.
- You can run the pictures as a slide show. The default length of time on each page is 3 seconds, but that is adjustable up or down.
- You can make the pages go Full Screen by pressing the F11 key. I've noticed some quirkiness in that process, but that may or may not be a problem on your computer.
- You can download any page of the yearbook to your computer.
Mickey has also put the yearbook on a CD. If that is something you would like to have contact Mickey personally for details.
Thanks for doing this Mickey. Your hard work is greatly appreciated.

Alumni Information Updates #1
A word of thanks to those who have responded to the email containing the link to the address update form. About 50 responses have been received and the process has worked great. However, 50 responses is only about 25 percent of the classmates in our alumni files with email addresses. If you haven't responded yet, don't put it off. If you don't have the email with the link to the form, just go to the Email Directory page of the class web site and use the Update Address link on that page. The form available there is the same form that was in the email I sent you.

Searching...
Are you tired of reading about computer stuff? Then send me something else to post. <grin> Till then I wanted to bore you with several tips on how to get the most out of the Classmate Email Directory.
First, don't waste time scrolling the list looking for a name unless your vision is 20-20 and you have plenty of time to kill. There are 225 names on the list currently, and hopefully more will be added. The quickest way to find someone is to search for them. If you have a full name for them you can use the first, middle, or last name in your search. Also, part of a name will sometimes work.
To start a search click in the rectangular box with the word "Find" showing inside the box. The box is located on the right side of the Toolbar at the top of the Directory. If you don't see such a Toolbar on your browser press the F8 key to see if that will open the Toolbar. If it doesn't, try Ctrl + F and see if a Search box opens. If neither of those work you may need to upgrade your version of Adobe Reader software. If you do have a search box type the name you want to search for and press the Enter key. Do that till you find your target or until nothing is found.
The second tip is related to the first one. If you want to email the person you find just click on their email address and your email program should open with the person's email address already in the To: line. If that doesn't work you can highlight the email address, copy it, and paste it into your email To: line.
The last tip has to do with the easiest way to make the email address list as large as possible without cutting off any data. Near the middle of the Toolbar I mentioned previously there is a small box showing a percentage figure. On the right side of that box is a small downward pointing arrow. Click that arrow and select "Fit Visible."
Searching computer generated documents is a real time saver. If you've never done much of it, jump in.

New Approach
Starting today you will see a new format for our Class Email Directory. This new format was driven by the new address update form I told you about in my March 1, 2010 posting to the Blog.
When you use the new update form to provide your address information it is automatically stamped with the time it was submitted. The time stamp is shown in the left most column of the new Class Email Directory.
Under this new approach each classmate with an Internet connected computer can easily ensure the currency of their alumni address information. Make your updates as often as you think they are needed. However, doing it at least once a year would be advisable for everyone. Hopefully, keeping up with address info this way will cut down on the number of "lost" classmates, and help hold the line on the rising expense of trying to find "missing" classmates at reunion time.
I encourage everyone to use the form soon after reading this posting. Subsequently, report your changes as they occur, or every 12 months if no changes occur. Its always a good idea to complete all data items each time you submit a change. That confirms previous information and shows where changes have taken place.

Email & Home Address Changes
Rather than provide a list of new names added to our email directory, I am going to ask you to go to the Email Directory page of the class web site to view the latest Class Email Directory.
You can download a copy of the Email Directory and print it or save it to your computer. Because it is electronically searchable using it on your computer makes it very easy to determine if a particular classmate has provided their address information.
I want to also call your attention to the Update Address link on the class web site. That link now provides a form you can use to provide your email and home address information or any updates to that data.
The process is very easy to follow. I encourage you to familiarize yourself with it by using the form to provide your current address information even if you've recently provided it in connection with the reunion planning effort. And use the form anytime any part of your address info needs updating. A couple of dozen folks have used the form thus far, and it has worked smoothly.
Support For Older Browsers
Today is the day that Google said they would no longer be supporting Internet browsers prior to IE7, Firefox 3.0, Chrome 4.0, and Safari 3.0. If your browser is in the unsupported group please let me know if you have problems accessing any portion of the class web site.
