Letter From Director - Fair Park High School Alumni Association
As many of you may know, Caddo Parish School Superintendent, Dr. Gerald Dawkins, has unveiled his 2020 Vision for Caddo Parish Schools. There are a number of elements contained in his plan, including mergers of schools, closing of schools, and building new schools.
One suggestion in the plan involves Fair Park High School. The proposal is to take the students at Fair Park High School and divide our population, sending our students to Woodlawn High School and Booker T. Washington High School. Under his proposal, with the removal of students, Fair Park High School would be converted into an office building for use by the Caddo Parish school system. A point worth noting, Fair Park has the largest enrollment of the three schools. Why should our students be divided and bussed to schools out of their community when they have chosen to attend their neighborhood school?
The Fair Park High School Alumni Association feels this plan is ill advised. We feel that Fair Park should remain a high school serving the students of this community.
We strongly encourage everyone to attend the community meetings. The meetings are scheduled at Central School Board Office, 1961 Midway, Saturday, October 30, 2010, 9:00 a.m. and at Fair Park High School, Monday, November 8, 2010, 6:30 p.m.
Our school opened its doors for the first students in the fall of 1928. Fair Park High School has an 82-year history and is a landmark in the City of Shreveport. Fair Park High School is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Fair Park stands proudly; ready to continue to serve the high school students of this community.
We ask for your prayers and support as we work to maintain Fair Park as a community high school. More information on this issue will be forthcoming.
Best regards,
Cathy Ridley Bonds, Director

This table shows the browsers used by those who accessed our class web site from July 1 - September 30, 2010. One item of interest is that visitors using Chrome, Firefox, and Safari generally clicked more on pages after accessing the web site than visitors who used other browsers. The faster speeds of the newer browsers may account for this situation.
