Jerry and Brenda wanted to share with the class that they just celebrated their 46th Wedding Anniversary with a fun trip to Harrah's Casino breakfast buffet on Saturday morning, 4-20-08. They were accompanied by their daughter Holly and Brenda's Mom, Mrs. Alice Broome who is 86 years old.
Brenda said she and Jerry met at a sock hop in Benton, LA. She and Carolyn Holiday had gone to the sock hop that night and Jerry was playing in the band, and that was it for her. She ask him to dance and he accepted and it was love at first sight. That love has lasted all these years for them.
They got married at Wynn Methodist Church at the corner of Virginia and Merwin in Shreveport in 1962. Brenda remembers driving to Dallas in Jerry's white '57 Ford convertible for their honeymoon.
Congratulations Brenda and Jerry for all the past years together and may you have many more happy Anniversaries to come with Holly and Mrs. Alice enjoying them with you. God Bless!

Garland Ware Moellenkamp
Garland wanted to share with the class her experience with Orr BMW's Ultimate Drive for Cancer that she participated in this past week.
The Drive for Cancer was a great success. Orr BMW had about 25 specially marked cars (Pink Ribbon, Ultimate Drive for Susan G. Komen) and an open air tent very nicely decorated. There were pretty pink tablecloths, plenty of pink flowers that were donated by Broadmoor Florist, and lots of people showed up for the event. For every mile driven Orr BMW gave a dollar to The Susan G. Komen Foundation. Fat Burger donated all the delicious hamburgers with all the trimmings. This drive goes all over the country so be sure and watch for it in your part of town.
Garland said she was presented with a pink and gray bag given to her by Orr BMW. Also, the Foundation and Orr BMW gave her a plaque for "Hero Of The Year." Of course Garland said she was not the real hero. She said the hero's were her family and friends who stood by her in the fight. Also she gives praise to her church who prayed so fervently for her, the young woman in the mammogram lab who wouldn't quit till she got an x-ray of something she only suspected, the doctors and nurses who administered the correct treatment and got her through, the people in the research labs who look for causes and cures, the people who give to research and the people at Orr BMW and elsewhere who work so hard to put on events like this to bring awareness to the public on this fight. These are the hero's she says, and she is just the result of their heroism--She is the Survivor!
Garland, we all thank you for the kind words and may God continue to bless you and others that have had or that are still experiencing this dreadful disease.

Jackie Jones
Jackie wanted to give the class another good report on his cataract surgery that was performed this morning (04-09-08) at the Steen-Hall Eye Surgery Center in Shreveport.
Jackie had his right eye surgery done today and his left eye was done on o4-02-08. Both surgeries went well but the one today was even better than last week. He had no trouble during the actual surgery and must report back tomorrow for a check up.
Jackie said there were 10 folks waiting in line for cataract surgery with Dr. Steen working as fast as possible and Jackie was # 10 in line. Again the surgery was not painful and he does not have to wear an eye patch. Jackie's Mom was with him during the two surgeries and she still has good eye sight at 86 years old.
Please take care of eye # 2 now Jackie and before long you will be healed and looking at everything in a new way. You might actually see the pretty colors of the blooming flowers this Spring.

Betty Molcany Barber
The Barbers (Betty Molcany & RD) and the Doughtys (Camilla Fulco and Brian) spent a couple of days in Grapevine and the Gaylord Hotel in February. Camilla and Brian were in town for a travel club conference and were nice enough to invite us to join them. What a fun time that was!
Brian really knows how to throw a party. Too bad he had to work the whole time while Camilla could visit and play. Of course, being the good wife that she is she would have to stop what we were doing and answer Brian's desperate calls for help. Nothing like a good woman to come to the rescue!
Camilla's daughter, Wendy and her family, and my son, Gary and a friend, were there so we enjoyed meeting the kids that we have swapped so many tales about but never met. Can't wait to meet again- who knows where or when?
Betty thanks for the update and glad you and Camilla got together again to have a great time.

Jackie Jones
Jackie wanted to give the class a good report on his cataract surgery this morning (o4-02-08) at the Steen-Hall Eye Surgery Center in Shreveport.
Jackie said the actual surgery, which was on his left eye, took less than 10 minutes to complete and that Dr. Steen had folks lined up for the morning with surgeries. If all goes as expected on this left eye and the healing takes place Jackie will have the right eye operated on next Wednesday (04-09-08). He said the surgery was not painful at all and was glad it turned out so good. He does not even have to wear an eye patch. His Mother was with him at all times overseeing the operation and her favorite son.
Jackie we are all sending our best wishes and good luck to you for having the surgery done. How good it will be in the future to be able to see again.

Becky Odom Goodwin
Becky wanted to thank everyone for their sweet comments in the online Guestbook for her Mom who passed away last week.
Becky said her Mom was truly loved by so many folks, and she really appreciates all the thoughts and prayers that were extended to the family. She said the family is really going to miss her Mom so very much as she was such a joy to be around all the time. She would say, "Looks like it's going to be a beautiful day today," even though she was almost blind. But Becky says that was just her Mom's attitude about life.
Becky, what a great attitude your Mom had about life. We all still send our thoughts and prayers to you and the family for continued healing on this great loss.
