Carolyn Holiday Eichner

Carolyn is reporting that in the past week in Cottage Grove, Oregon at her home there it has snowed from 5 to 10 inches. It was really scary to drive in for a few days. The rain finally came and washed it all away and she says she would take the rain over the snow and ice anyday. Thanks for the update on weather conditions in Oregon, do keep us posted please.

Camilla Fulco Doughty

Camilla reports that she just got back from Cairo, Egypt and sailing up the Nile River from Aswan, Egypt which is near the border with Sudan making stops in Aswan and Luxor to view the famous temples there. She escorted 14 clients from the famous relocated Temple of Abu Symbel and the High Dam at Aswan where sailing up the Nile you can view the narrow cultivated agriculture strips on either side of the Nile that supports the food system for Egypt before the desert starts and there is only dust. The Great Pyramids are still there along with the Sphinx. Everyone had a wonderful time. Now Camilla is going to see if Brian will let her go on every trip he sends to Egypt. Camilla that sounds so fun.

Bill Roberts

Bill wanted to share his motorcycle calendar with the class for the beginning of the new year 2008. He and 10 others will leave FL for New Braunfels, TX for the HOG rally on May 1, 2, and 3. Then on June 4, 5, 6, and 7 he and about 20 others are going to Gatlinburg, TN. Bill says the trips are short these days as it's so very cold in FL. It's about 70 to 73 degrees daily. Bill, enjoy that Harley for all of us.

Reggie Spate Anthony

Spate wanted to share with the class his Thanksgiving holiday cruise. He said he was offered a Dance Host position on a 10 night cruise to the Canal Zone and Columbia. It sounded like a good deal so he accepted the offer. He had a room to himself and it was a very nice one. He said he was the youngest man on board by at least 20 years. He was on the dance floor every night from 9pm to 12pm and had the ladies falling all over him to dance. Spate said ladies from 75 to 92 years old shouldn't have any cocktails and try to dance. The trip was not exactly what he had envisioned but fun for the time.

Sue Scott Gough

Sue reports that she went on a bus trip in early Jan. with the community center to see the Federal Reserve Bldg. That was very interesting to say the least for her. The bus had to pull up through a bldg. with the folks aboard and be checked for bombs and etc. before they could enter the bldg. Then each of the folks had to go through a security check after getting off the bus. There were about 40 folks on the tour and she sure enjoyed it.

Then she went to lunch and to the Transtar facility-another interesting trip. They have a command center like the Space Center but only a lot larger. They have rows and rows of computers, tv's, communication equipment for the people that work in the Houston Transportation Hurricane Center, Police Dept. and etc.

The next trip is going on another day trip with the AARP people to Beaumont to tour St. Anthony's Catholic Cathedral-there are web sites for all of the places she has been and are going to. So be sure and check them out for all information.

Sue is still involved with church, Adult Bible Study, Awana Club for kids, Women Ministry of the church, and etc. She is decorating a table for the Ladies Delight Dinner on Feb. 29th at 7:00p.m. The theme is the Red Hat Society and the colors are purple, red, gold, lavender, and pink. The scripture that represents her table is Titus 2:1-5 regarding the older women setting an example for the younger women. She is having a blast setting up a 60" round table for 8 people and her table is full with guests. She will also be taking trips with the Red Hat Sassy Sexy Ladies and another group the Red Hat Roadrunners. She belongs to two chapters.

The decoration for the table a deep purple satin piece of material will be the tablecloth, then she has 3 styrofoam white heads (will paint gold) with three different red hats on three different heads. In the center is her Western Hat decorated with flowers, a bird, and pins in the front. that represents America with an American flag, a pin with the flag of Texas, a pin with the state of Texas with the colors of the state flag, the red, white and blue ribbon pin that represents God Bless America, in the center is her Red Hat pin in the State of Texas in the colors for the Red Hatters, Below there is another pin that says Texas (The Friendship State).

On the brim of her hat in front she put a pin of a gold cross and each side of the gold cross is glued a purple guitar pick that has the words (Pick Jesus) and It is glued to another purple guitar pick that has the scripture Romans 10:13. This is the main centerpiece. On the right of the main hat is a red sun visor for a more casual look on the 2nd head, on the left of the Western hat is a fancy Red Hat with red feathers on it. Around the center hat is a red and purple boas to go around the neck of the head. Then she has one red boa each to go around the necks of the other two hats. She has already printed up her place cards for each guest and the bible scriptures pertaining to the theme to give them as a gift.

Sue's husband, John said he didn't mind her getting involved with all of the activities as he knows she is a people person and he is a home body. He told her "if it makes you happy-it makes him happy too!"

Thanks for the update Sue and keep us posted to other things you are doing. Keep walking with John on the treadmill. It will surely make you both feel better.

Betty Molcany Barber

Betty reports that at the end of December our Fair Park "clan" held a mini-mini reunion at Kay Kitchens Smith's house in Magnolia, Tx. The five couples, Shirley Baldwin and Don Chandler, Carole McKneely and Ash Cardwell, Kay Kitchens and Clark Smith, Betty Molcany and RD Barber, and Johnnie Ross McKinney and her friend, Don had not had a reunion in at least five years so this reunion was really special. For two days the only thing that stopped all the chatter was the need to sleep! Being together was a wonderful way to end the old year and to start the new year. The really special part of life long friendships is that the conversation took up right where we left off the last time we were all together. All of us send our best wishes for a really wonderful 2008 to all of our '61 classmates!
