New Fair Park Alumni Association Set to Launch

I received a note recently from Jim McClure, FP 1966 (and brother to ’61 classmate Brenda McClure Johnson) that mentioned there are efforts under way to establish a new Fair Park Alumni Association. He passed along the following info . . .

  • Alumnus Cathy Ridley Bonds has drafted the new by-laws for the new association. Currently the document is being finalized and they hope to begin notifying everyone of the new association in the near future.

  • Coach Henderson’s old alumni association will be totally disbanded, but the new association will essentially mirror what previously existed with only a few changes. Coach Henderson has passed along his approval of setting up the new association. Initially, funding of the new association will be from funds left over from Jim’s 40th class reunion held last August. Jim said that as soon as Cathy gives him the word emails will go out to everyone so that efforts can get underway to get interested alumni signed up.

I requested that I receive notice of the launch so that I can inform everyone in the Class of ’61 who may wish to consider joining.

That's all I have on the new association at this time. When I get more I will pass it along.

A Few Tidbits

I thought I would pass along few bits of news that have come my way since the first of the year.

Bill and Janet Freeman Brickell were scheduled to leave CA around 2/8/07 for a cross country move to the Palm Harbor, FL area. This area is on the west coast of FL about 10 miles or so north of Clearwater, FL. Janet said she would update their address info as soon as she has time after making the move.

Sue Roark Henderson and husband Jim will be leaving the Miami, FL area and moving to the Nashville, TN area. If all goes according to plans that will take place around mid-March. They have been in their current home for about 30 years so lots of memories have been made there as they raised their family and fought the hurricanes together. But Nashville also holds memories for them since Jim went to graduate school there and Sue taught school for five years in that area.

Larry Fields got in touch around the end of January after discovering our class website. Larry was at Fair Park for his freshman through junior years but his family moved to the Ferriday, LA area where he completed his senior year. Because of the friendships he formed while at Fair Park he asked to join with us as we remember our Fair Park days. Larry is the Senior Pastor at Central Baptist Church of Bearden in the Knoxville, TN area. The church has a website you can visit at http://www.cbcbearden.org/ that has a picture of Larry and some of his staff.
