The new or updated home addresses are the good news. The bad news is that 50 of the letters sent to classmates to announce the reunion were returned because of outdated addresses. This return rate of 11 percent would probably be acceptable if this were a business mailing. However, given that it is an alumni mailing it means we no longer have any way to contact most of these classmates. We did have email addresses for 8 of the 50 classmates and they have been asked to update their home address info. However, the other 42 classmates will have to be added to the “missing” classmates group since we have no way of contacting them. If you are planning a move please don’t forget to provide your new home address and/or new email address for the alumni records. Unless you take the initiative there is no assurance we can ever regain contact with you.
Information regarding possible locations of several “missing” classmates was also received during May. Although that information was not detailed enough to result in a confirmed address for those classmates the info will be kept on file in the hopes that it may ultimately prove helpful. If you have any info at all about any of the missing classmates listed on the What’s New Page of the class website please send that info along to me.
Carolyn Holliday Eichner sent a note that since May 1st at 4:30am she has been exceptionally busy. That was when her 83 year old Dad suffered a heart attack. Carolyn got medical help to him in time and after several surgeries to place stents in the proper places Mr. Holliday is slowly recovering at Carolyn’s home. He is a retired Pastor and still lives in his own place near Carolyn and her family. Carolyn asked that prayer be offered up by those who are willing to pray for a full recovery for her Dad.
Judy Sewell Wilson retired at the end of this school year from her work as a teacher in Bossier Parish. She is hoping that the 6 Saturdays and 1 Sunday on her new weekly calendar won’t be too much free time. Only those of us who are retired have probably faced this issue. Since perspective is so important to good decision making, the best advice I can offer is think of the “new” calendar as an asset and not a liability.
As of May 31st signups for the reunion have totaled about 25 persons. As I get further updates I’ll post them in the blog. If anyone knows a classmate who didn’t get an announcement letter and registration form please direct them to the website or any of the reunion committee members for copies of both documents. If they don’t have an internet connection please print them a copy of the announcement letter and registration form located on the Reunion page of the website. If you don’t have a printer, send me their home address and I’ll see that a copy is mailed directly to them.
RD & Betty Molcany Barber are continuing their development of a memorial to classmates who have passed away. Thanks to everyone who has responded to their recent request for info and pictures for certain classmates.
Since the blog page of the class website now functions as the primary way for sharing messages about class related matters I would like to encourage you to read the blog page on a frequent basis, or at least once a week. That will keep you abreast of class related news such as the recent article regarding the group photo to be made at the reunion. That is info you definitely need to know if you plan on attending the reunion. However, if you wait a couple of weeks to read the blog that article could be located so far down the list of posted articles you might miss it.
Also, while a blog is designed to be interactive there has been very little feedback from classmates thus far. When you read an article don’t be hesitant to pass along a comment you might have. Also, if you have class related information you want me to post send me an email and I’ll add it to the blog.
May 31st was the 45th anniversary of our graduation from Fair Park. Check out the Do You Remember posting below for some musings on this topic.
That’s it for now. Summer temperatures are upon us. Stay cool.
