JACK W. BRYANT, 61, was called into the presence of God on Saturday, May 28th, following a brief illness. A resident of Shreveport for most of his life, Jack was born in Ashdown, Arkansas on September 14th, 1943. Jack enjoyed working in various sales positions, meeting people and make them laugh with his unique sense of humor. He was a graduate of Fair Park High School and claimed to be the only person who had attended Louisiana State University in four different decades, graduating in 1991. A few hours short of his Masters Degree, he considered making it five decades, but lost interest.
Daddy Jack leaves behind Sandy, his wife of 42 years, daughter Alison, grandsons Tyler and McKaleb, son-in-law Jason Spencer, special brother and sister-in-law Donnie & Sandra Bryant Fuller, nephew Roger C. Bryant, Jr., nieces Jahnienne Dennison, Brenda Bryant and Darlyne Methvin, and cousins from Mississippi to California. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl W. and Cora Mae Bryant, and brother Roger Carl Bryant, all of Shreveport. His extended family included his brothers at American Legion Post 14 and the Military Order of the Purple Heart, as well as his friends at Friends.
Jack attended "Just a Small War" in the Republic of South Vietnam during 1967-1968, an experience that changed his life forever. As a combat medic, he received three Purple Hearts, the Army Commendation Medal, and a Silver Star for gallantry in action.
A member of the American Legion, Disabled American Veterans and the Military Order of the Purple Heart, Jack loved our country and appreciated its military veterans. It is so appropriate to be writing his memorial on Memorial Day!
Pallbearers will be members of the American Legion Post 14. Honorary pallbearers are brother-in law Mike Herring, and special friends Clay Wheeler, John Hurley, Curtis Williams, and Jerry Mullins.
The family extends its heartfelt thanks to the Overton Brooks VA Medical Center team, especially the nurses in Wing 6 West, Dr. John Carmody and Dr. Ian Illium, for their care and kindness.
A Visitation will be held at Rose-Neath's Southside Funeral Home, Wednesday, June 1, 2005 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Funeral service will be held at Rose-Neath's Southside Chapel, Thursday, June 2, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. Burial in Centuries Memorial Park Cemetery will follow.
Jack would have been pleased to be remembered by Memorials to the American Legion Lowe McFarland Post 14.
